Abstract

A molecular epidemiological investigation is conducted to study the case-histories of two patients with laboratory-confirmed Buruli or Bairnsdale ulcer (BU), caused by Mycobacterium ulcerans, who were infected in New South Wales (NSW) or overseas. The case studied is supposedly the first case of the disease acquired in NSW and hence makes the clinicians aware of the occurrence of the disease to ensure early diagnosis and treatment to minimize disability.
