Abstract

Personal equity plans were launched in the UK in 1986, and allow investors to invest in shares, either directly, or, following changes launched in 1993, through unit trusts and investment trusts. Investors gain from tax advantages but performance will depend on the investment, and financial advisers should be able to provide information on investment and unit trust performance. Unit trust investments attracted charges, but these are not usually higher for Pep investments than for non-Pep investments.
