Abstract

The schizosaccharomyces pombe cdc 3 (+) gene encodes profilin, an actin-monomer-binding protein, which is involved in cytokinesis. Cdc 3-profilin, which is situated in the medial domain of the cell, catalyzes the production of the F-actin contractile ring. Cells which generate cdc3-profilin in excess acquire an elongated dumbbell shape.
