Abstract

NMR and FAB mass spectrometry and X-ray crystallography were used to characterize the complexation behavior of permethylated cycloinuloheptaose, permethylated cycloinulohexaose and cyclic oligosaccharide hosts. An analysis of the barium cation complex structure of these compounds revealed OMe-3 oxygen of the furanose rings to contribute to cation binding. FAB mass spectroscopy was used to evaluate host-guest complex mass.
