Abstract

A study was conducted on the effect of the intensity level of Just-in-Time (JIT) activities on quality. A sample of 165 manufacturing firms from three industry groups in the US was studied using descriptive statistics, cluster analysis and analysis of variance. The intensity level of JIT was found to be a function of JIT technology, extent of JIT use, length of time of JIT use and the manner in which JIT is integrated with other time-based technologies. Results also showed that all dimensions of quality improve as the intensity level of JIT increases.
