Abstract

Powdered and field-oriented samples of Gd(sub 1-x)Dy(sub x)Co(sub 4)B are subjected to x-ray diffraction and magnetization measurements to determine their properties. The samples have a planar magnetic anisotropy at low temperatures, and axial magnetic anisotropy is exhibited at room temperatures and at higher temperatures. The crystallographic manufacturing process of the compound produces a permanent variation in the constituent elements of the samples.
