Abstract

Determination of the complete DNA sequence of yeast chromosome XI reveals facts regarding certain unique genes. Homologues to genes that perform varied functions in multicellular organisms are used to identify the gene function or to develop new therapeutic agents. These unique genes are also involved in human pathologies such as xeroderma pigmentosum or adrenoleukodistrophy.
