Abstract

There are three steps involved in upgrading an outmoded computer system: requirement analysis, evaluation and installation. In requirement analysis, the system is examined for imperfections, strengths, recyclable components and compatability with present software and hardware with the help of an outside consultant. If major changes need to be done, a request for proposal (RFP) should be developed. This list should include all requirements tailored because these are the specifications that potential vendors will address. During the second stage, chosen vendors are asked to demonstrate the new system and its capabilities. A programmer or a technician that will expertly assess the vendors' products should be present. The last step involves the installation of the new system. Under this phase, data testing and checking should be performed. Allowances for system errors and gliches should also be made.
