Abstract

Companies are often confronted with problems related to the performance of their workers. Supervisors trying to remedy these problems need to balance employees' needs with the companies' business concerns. The four steps that a supervisor can take when dealing with performance problems include assessing the potential benefit of resolving the problem, contrasting present performance with desired performance, determining the cause of the performance problem and developing an action plan to solve the problem. The cooperation of the problem employee is crucial to this process.
