One marriage - two divorces: international comparison of gender differences in attitudes

An analysis of the influence of gender on the perception of divorce and marriage in West Germany, the US, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Italy and Australia reveals that gender influences attitudes toward divorce but not toward marriage. Women, more than men, favor divorce. Age influences attitudes toward marriage because older people support the institution of marriage more than the younger generation does.
