Abstract
- Republicans in Congress are moving to introduce a bill to lift the pan on the export of Alaska North Slope crude oil. A similar bill in 1994 raised concerns that US jobs would be lost in the refining and shipbuilding industries. The new bill includes measures intended to appease maritime interests, but opponents still feel it is more in the interests of foreign multinational oil companies than US workers.
