Abstract

Gift shop owners should guard against post-Christmas inertia by gathering ideas for subsequent holidays. A good source of inspiration is a January gift show, which may provide the enthusiasm and energy needed to persevere into the new year. Martin Luther King Jr. Day provides a good opportunity to sell African-American memorabilia, and Valentine's Day is a chance for retailers to offer boldly colored objects and to promote dead poets.<br />The First Quarter is for retail survivors and idea supervisors.
