Nonlocal model based on crack interactions: a localization study

Abstract

Incorporation of an integral that describes the directional dependence of crack interactions in the conventional nonlocal model improves the performance of the model. The new nonlocal model produces nonuniform strain profiles if the local constitutive law deviates from linearity. Old and new models exhibit different localization sensitivity and the bifurcation analysis proves the importance of renormalization of the averaging function near the boundary.
