Abstract

An analysis of thermal beam disturbances in end-pumped Nd:GSGG, Nd:YAG and Nd:YLF rods reveals the influence on face- and edge-cooling on the disturbances. Surface deformation, thermal dispersion and strain-induced birefringence effects help compute space-resolved alterations in the rods. Optical path difference computations are verified using a polarized HeNe probe beam and a Twyman-Green interferometer.
