Abstract
- An anthropologist recounts his experiences in Afghanistan and reveals how they changed his attitude towards fieldwork in anthropology. Anthropologists and ethnographers must refrain from hastily constructing theories out of the data they collect from their fieldwork since such theories cannot reflect the real significance of complex cultural experiences. Field research should involve deep reflection over the experiences one undergoes during contact with the research objects without arriving at formal models.
