New pathways to pain medications

A study provided new molecular targets for medications that could alleviate chronic pain, a condition for which new drugs are urgently needed. Researchers identified a gene that affects sensitivity to chronic pain and they are speculating that using an enzyme inhibitor to reduce excess levels of B[H.sub.4] might be an effective way of treating with few side effects.
