Panel urges mandatory beef-handling training

An American Gastroenterological Assn Foundation panel of 14 medical experts believes grocery employees should receive training in beef handling in order to prevent E coli bacteria-related illnesses and deaths. Other recommendations include better training of federal beef inspectors and marketing irradiated beef. Grocery store employee training costs would probably affect retailer expenses but would be valuable as grocery stores participate in greater food preparation.
