Abstract

Astronomers Hiraoaki Narumi and Kiyotaka Kanai of Japan spotted the new nova outburst of RS Ophiuchi on 12 February 2005. This recent outburst is helping astronomers in better understanding the physics of nova outbursts. By analyzing the emission from the cooling, post-outburst white dwarf, astronomers hope to determine how much accreted matter remains.
