Developing research activity

The Department of Retailing and Marketing within the Manchester Metropolitan University sought to change its culture to teaching and research from just teaching, with the transformation made easier by establishing a positive and individual climate for staff development to help promote their desire to participate in research activity. The two-way relationship between research and teaching was found to be valuable. Research output can be adversely affected by limited support services, however. The development of the teaching and research culture is examined, with focus on research management.
