Abstract

Study of the infrared-excess star Fomalhaut at a resolution of 80 astronomical units reveals the presence of a disk of dust around the star. The dust extends to about 200 astronomical units. The disk may have been caused by asteriodal and cometary impacts. Such disks result in the formation of planets.
