Abstract: Site-specific mutagenesis of the mecA-27r gene encoding PBP2a-27r results in the replacement of N-terminal membrane anchor by a short chelating peptide. The binding affinity of CP-PBP2a-27r for beta-lactam antibiotics is similar to that of the wild type enzyme.
