Abstract
- A procedure is introduced to calculate the protonation probability of titratable sites of a membrane protein in the presence of a membrane potential. The proton pump bacteriorhodopsin is used as an example to show on a structural level how the membrane potential affects the energetics of the protonation of proteins.
