Abstract

The Cesar Chavez School was established to address the overflow of elementary students in Chicago's Mexican-American community. The school building, which was built by Ross Barney + Jankowski Inc, features colorful bricks and an unconventional design. Meanwhile, classrooms are equipped with coffered ceilings, pendant-mounted lights and built-in furniture. School administrators report that the design promotes organized traffic flow and makes supervision easier.
