Abstract

An analysis of race, marginal status and interregional migration among the Pakistani and West Indian populations in England and Wales, UK, confirms the gender-role theory of migration differentials. Migration is not advantageous to women within the white population while gender-role socialization proved crucial in the Pakistan sample. An analysis of every aspect of the migration of specific ethnic populations, in relation to their cultural backgrounds, is crucial to a study of culturally specific gender roles.
