Abstract

When the approximately two and a half million tons of municipal waste are incinerated in UK each year the toxic elements released are not only the result of the chemicals in the waste itself but also of a whole new range of new compounds created by the intense heat of the incineration process itself. In spite of the best efforts of the Environment Agency the danger to public health is significant as proved by several epidemiological and environmental studies.
