Abstract

Antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E and glutathione and antioxidant enzymes such as catalase and selenium-dependent glutathione peroxidase act as inhibitors of cataract. Multivitamin supplements used regularly reduce the risk of cataract. People with high content of carotenoids and vitamin D exhibit lower risk of cataract. Foods with high vitamin C and carotene have a protective effect against age-related maculopathy.
