Abstract

Experiments on vasopressin receptors in Swiss 3T3 cells indicate that a long-term pretreatment of bombesin induces heterologous enhancement of vasopressin responsiveness. This is done by increasing the number of membrane receptors. Scatchard analysis at four degrees celsius indicates increased binding, reflecting an increase in the number of vasopressin receptors. Addition of cycloheximide completely prevents the increase in (3H) vasopressin binding that is induced by bombesin. Pretreatment of Swiss 3T3 fibroblasts with bombesin enhances the 45Ca2+ efflux stimulated by vasopressin.
