Abstract

Conductivity data for pure crustal rocks which were recovered from boreholes in southern Germany reveal that accessory phases such as Fe-Ti oxides and sulphides can increase, or even exceed, the high conductivity level produced by saline fluids. This explains the high electrical conductivity of the lower continental crust as revealed by geophysical measurements.
