Abstract
- Physicians should not be asked to pay a special tax on their income to finance Medicare and other programs. No other profession is taxed in this way, yet several states, such as Kentucky, have attempted to levy such a tax. Paying to support public health care is the concern of every citizen, not just doctors. The provider tax is analogous to taxing teachers to finance the public schools.<br />Lawmakers have figured out a new spot to put a toll booth --right outside the doctor's office.
