Abstract

Housing needs in rural areas is a significant problem due to the imbalance between incomes and housing costs and the lack of rented housing. New settlements can provide significant amounts of affordable housing but are controversial due to their environmental impact and the effects on local house prices. A survey examines new settlement proposals in Stratford-on-Avon and found that they could support more affordable homes in a single location, that on allocated sites.
