Abstract: The first large-scale synthesis of unusual ZnO ellipsoids by a facile solution process and their optical properties are reported. The results have shown that these self-assembled microstructures composed of nanoparticles and orientationally aligned nanorods are formed by the oriented-attachment mechanism.
