Staying on in El Salvador

Times change, the searchlight moves on to illuminate the next crisis, but there are some, like the photographer Larry Towell, who stay on, to tell the story no one wants to hear any longer. Bloody and disgusting as the crime was, what was perhaps most shocking was the impression it gave that in El Salvador nothing had changed and after all the United States money, all the equipment, all the advisers, US-trained troops could still be found committing spectacular atrocities against unarmed civilians, priests and women.
