A temporary decline of thinking ability during foreign language processing

A divided-attention experiment with Japanese-English and English-Japanese bilinguals proved that the use of a foreign language induces a temporary decrease in thinking ability. The pressure on concurrent thinking, the result of an imposed foreign language, is responsible for this decrease.
