Abstract

The narrow-host-range phages RP2 and RP3 released from lysogenic strains comprise oxytetracycline-producing Streptomyces rimosus strains R6-65 and R7 (ATCC 10970). The phages recombine at an att site to lysogenize. The occurrence of cured strains during genetic investigations led to the discovery of RP2 and RP3. A bacteriophage taxonomic classification is conferred on them due to their tadpole-shape and double-stranded DNA.
