DHL joint venture receives license to provide a courier service in China

The Chinese government awarded DHL Worldwide Express Ltd a license to operate a domestic courier service in China. Under the licensing agreement, DHL, in a joint venture with Sinotrans Corp, will be allowed to open seven new offices in the country, making it the first foreign company to be granted a permit to provide courier service in China. The 50-50 joint venture was followed by applications from several of DHL's international competitors asking for permits to operate the same kind of express mail service.
