Vietnam: on the trail of the tigers

The Vietnamese local economy is struggling to carve its own niche in the international market economy. To achieve this goal, it is suggested that Vietnam learn from the examples set by the economic tigers in the Southeast Asian region. Taiwan's export-oriented industrialisation strategy paved the way for Taiwanese products to compete in the international market. But for Vietnam to enjoy the same success, certain preconditions must be fulfilled, preconditions that require a reassessment of the existing economic structure.
