Abstract
- The speed improvement that can result from running a program on a parallel computer can be studied by a newly developed method that does not necessitate additional programing and demands very little work from the programmer. A parallelism analyzer (pp) simulates parallel behavior and calculates an upper bound on performance on a parallel computer by employing a trace of the program's sequential operation. Symbolic programs cannot be automatically concerted into parallel programs with the computation methods used for numeric programs.
