Approximate performance analysis of edge preserving filters

Edge preserving signals are enhanced by the application of different types of robust filtering procedures. Evaluation of output average and variance in the edges of the primary signal enables the gauging of the edge performance of these filters using statistical simulations when analytical techniques are intractable. However, the edge response of a filter is specifically analyzed by the application of approximate asymptotic methods.
