Abstract

Lactate performs a major role in intermediary metabolism, and this function may be used to include competition with free fatty acids and glucose to perform the function of an oxidative substrate. Metabolic and thermogenic effect of small sodium lactate infusion levels between 2.0-2.4 millimols was evaluated. These readings were derived from physiological or pathological mechanisms influencing the entire body or forearm glucose metabolism during stages of fasting and regulated physiological hyperinsulinemia.
