CAL, a Soho facility, has ordered an FDL-90 telecine from BTS, reversing its previous decision to purchase an Ursa Gold from Rank-Cintel, because of recent improvements to the FDL-90. The FDL-90 offers a filmic look compared to the flatter look with the Ursa Gold. However, some post production houses believe that the FDL-90 telecine does not offer pin-registered stability and is not suited to high end post production. SVC is planning to upgrade its existing Ursa and also believes that the FDL-90 is not suited to high end commercials.
