Abstract

The construction of work in artificial intelligence (AI), as seen from the expert systems community, suggests that in professional work, practitioners use the term 'work' very selectively. This selectivity extends to their method of studying the work of the human experts whose practice knowledge-based systems are supposed to mimic. There systems are unsuccessful when subjected to real-world situations, because of the incomplete representations of expert knowledge encoded in their knowledge base.
