Abstract

The possibility of alcoholism causing bipolar illness can be inferred from the observations that most alcoholic patients have suffered head injury or seizure due to the effect of alcoholism, which may contribute to bipolar illness. Head injury or seizures may also lead to excessive drinking and result in bipolar illness. Alcoholism can be observed in the initial stages of the progression of mania or as a factor causing mania. Induced mania and secondary alcoholism are some probable characteristics of bipolar patients.
