Abstract

Taper reaming can be done using a CNC machine instead of hand reaming or reaming on manual equipment. A simple gage can be used to measure the reamer's tool length. The reamer may be programmed to send an overall depth equal to the length of the gage. On the other hand, different hole sizes may be machined with one reamer using the same program but the depth differences must be calculated from the standard hole.<br />Many shops feel that taper reaming is not an operation that should be performed on a CNC machine.
