Training teachers to address the needs of students with severe mental retardation

The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of the concept of educability and its relationship to teacher education. Teachers and teacher training programs are being increasingly confronted with the complex issues related to students with severe mental retardation. A brief review of literature documenting contemporary best practices for such students presents a challenge for teacher educators.
