Abstract

Clonal expansion of antagonized hematopoietic precursors results in severe promyelocytic leukemia. Retinoic acid-induced in vivo and in vitro blast maturations prevent this effect. Chromosome translocation with retinoic acid alpha-receptor gene (RAR-alpha) and PML gene-breakpoints accompanies this leukemia. Adoptive cell destruction lessens and retinoic acid sensitivity increases on PML-RAR-alpha protein expression in specific myeloid precursor cells.
