Abstract

Teleworkers working either from their homes or from offices were interviewed to identify differences and similarities existing between them and to see if teleworking stereotypes described in the literature would be confirmed. Results offered evidence supporting the stereotypical image of teleworkers as women having to look after children and familial responsibilities. However, no conclusive evidence was obtained to support the view that isolation was a major problem for these workers. On the contrary, teleworkers emphasized the benefits of being able to work alone. Differences were found in terms of the environmental aspects of their profession.
