Abstract

Black music videos and the increasingly popular 'format of the remix in music' illustrate important cultural issues regarding television's role in modern culture, the difference between 'fine' and 'popular' art, and original authorship, as well as other numerous racial and gender-related topics. With its origins in African music, the black music remix and its representation in music videos may be having a strong impact on contemporary society's patterns of communication, urging a less linear, more dimensional structure.
