Abstract

Ritter Food Corp decided to venture into the fresh-seafood market despite its reputation as a hard sell because of the perishable nature of the items. At the beginning of Ritter Food's fresh-seafood program, a number of difficulties arose in areas such as packaging and sanitation. However, errors decreased dramatically as the operation progressed. At present, Ritter Food's fresh-seafood sector accounts for 2% of its total sales. Reports have also shown a 4% growth for the sector since the start of the program.<br />To most distributors, venturing into a fresh-seafood program sounds as appealing as sailing uncharted waters during a storm.
