Abstract

A parallel persistent current switch was studied. The switch, which is made of niobium titanium superconductors based on a copper-nickel matrix, was measured while undergoing a rapid current ramp which induced strand quenching. The results showed the occurence of a current transfer between outer strands and adjacent strands. These were also predicted by a numerical evaluation which took into account the self/mutual inductance between parallel conductors.
