Abstract: A study of the complete nucleotide sequence of the double-stranded RNA genome of the Leishmania RNA virus showed three open reading frames. Examination of the reading frames showed a plus one translational frameshift which produces a gag-pol type of fusion protein. It was further shown that the first open reading frame does not encode protein but initiates translation and or RNA stability.
